Versions: save, compare, restore and branch

Keep a history of every design: save named versions, list what changed between any version and the current design, restore or branch from one, and let the designer save a version automatically whenever you export or share.

Narrated walkthrough, 1 minute 22 seconds. Nothing plays until you press play.

Step by step

  1. Press Versions in the top bar. Enter a label (for example "Issued for structural review"), optional notes, your name and your discipline, then press Save version.
  2. The Versions badge shows the latest version number. A plus sign means the design has changed since that version was saved.
  3. Press Changes on a version to list every field that differs from the current design. Tick two versions and press Compare ticked to compare them with each other.
  4. Press Restore to make a version the working design again; the current state is saved as a safety version first. Press Branch to start a new design from a version and keep the original as it is.
  5. Leave Save a version automatically ticked and the designer saves one whenever you export XLSX, DXF or IFC, print the report or share a link, if the design changed since the last version.
  6. Press File on a version to download it as a project file, Export history for the whole history, or Import history to load one on another device. Versions are stored in this browser, up to 300 per design.

Save a version. Every design keeps its own version history on your device. Press Versions in the top bar, give the version a label, a note, your name and your discipline, and press Save. The badge on the button shows the latest version number, with a plus sign whenever the design has changed since. Versions are kept on this device with the design, up to three hundred of them.

See what changed. Press Changes on any version to list every field that differs from the current design, grouped by site, criteria, buildings, costs and engineering. Tick two versions and press Compare ticked to see the differences between those two instead.

Restore or branch. Restore puts a version back as the working design. The state you are leaving is saved as a safety version first, so nothing is lost. Branch starts a new design from a version: the easy way to try an alternative without touching the original. Both keep the full history, so you can always go back.

Automatic versions and history files. With the automatic option on, the designer saves a version whenever you export or share a design that has changed. Export history downloads the whole history as one file, and Import history brings it back on another device, or into a colleague's copy of the design. Versions live in this browser, so export the history before you move to another computer.

Try it on a real site.
